Li Susu and Tantai Jin decide to help a village that is threatened by a demon who kidnaps and marries their daughters. Since Tantai Jin is injured, he is dressed up as a bride while Li Susu will walk to the husband’s house.

Their hostility is settling into bickering and mockery. They are beginng to get closer now …

Li Susu saves Tantai Jin who has been tortured. They are still sniping at each other but they are doing so with a sense of honesty. This is the first indication that they respect each other although they still dislike each other intensely at the moment.

Cruelty is definitely the dominant theme in this book. Tantai Jin is certainly without mercy but it must be seen in the context of the many people who have betrayed and tortured him.

Ironically, the open hostility that he has shared with Ye Xiwu aka Li Susu is more honest than the betrayals of people who should have nurtured him.

So now Susu has had to fight a fox demon that had been exploiting her good-for-nothing brother. During the battle the demon possessed her for a moment, making her believe that she loved Tantai Jin who had wandered in on the scene.

Susu therefore kisses him but it is all an illusion and they both know it.
