Oh dear. I've really fallen terribly behind in my reviewing. I think I've long since finished over half the books I'm "currently" reading. Except those books near the bottom of the list. They are very much ongoing projects.

One of those books that I read sections of in grad school but never read the whole thing all the way through.

Have been in a bit of a politics-literary fiction rut of late so in returning to genre lit, I've decided to go truly old school.

Hoping I can make it through. The preface has me grinding my teeth at her gender essentialism, bald homophobia, & cheerleading for capitalism (maybe it's working for you bitch but only because so many many many people suffer to make it possible) to say nothing of all those sweeping generalizations. And yet her unabashed pro-sexuality is so refreshing that I'm willing to hang on. For now.

Cuz it's been a few years and it's on my mp3 player...

I really need to review some of these books that I've long since read.

So so good.

It's rare that I won't finish a book but after a couple of hours of this I just can't take it any more.

Need some comfort listening today. Time to turn to an old favorite.

It's embarrassing that I've never read any O'Conner. It's time to remedy that.

If one wants to write about the subtext of sex, it's time to study the master...

Okay, I've also forgotten how much spending so much time with self-indulgent rich people can get tiresome...

Gotta wait another 2 months to recheck out.

Love the way he is melding fleshed out imaginings of the experiences and resistence of individual slaves (which underscores the monstrous horror of slavery) with detailed historical research on the emergence of capitalism and territorial expansion (i.e. theft and genocide of indigenous peoples).

Does it sound too pretentious to say that I forgot just how much I enjoy Proust?

Sigh. Probably. But...damn. He really is the king of "well-observed."

It's been a few years since last I spent time with our erstwhile narrator and his sweet Albertine. I'm guessing from the title she's not quite so sweet anymore? ;-)

Have had this book sitting next to my bed for a year now. But as I got Sviotoslav Richter's version of WTK for Christmas, it's about time I finished this. Though it is a bit, er, train-spot-ery. Altschuler is a baseball fan and a math nerd and it shows.

Cromwell has just been arrested...

This one is gonna take some time. But so very interesting so far.

Very good but could use a better edit. As with the earlier books in this series, Mantel sucks you in. But just got through a gruesome description of someone being burned at the stake that gave me nightmares so need a bit of a break.

Time to take a little break from Thomas Cromwell for some comfort reading.
