Imagining being a horror writer and, at the end of a dramatic chapter with spiders and plagues and creepy white men, in which our protagonist suffers a demonic seizure, writing the sentence “she felt like she was a giant omelette being flipped.”

I’m no writer, but that objectively hilarious simile does not fit with the vibe of the rest of the book.

This horror novel about Japanese Internment camps sure had a lot of white characters in it…

Might end up teaching this to my year 7s, which will be fun. I’ve not cried in front of a class before, but there’s a first time for everything…

Been staring at the sentence “her feet did not speak for a woman of quality.” For a good 10 minutes now. What the fuck is it supposed to mean? What do women of quality’s feet look like Alexandre???

“Four crook blokes” would be more accurate tbh. Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D’Artagnan are all absolute dogs.

Maybe I’ve just had a long day, but this book is ruddy hilarious. D’Artagnan may be a moron, but he’s my moron.

After 1 chapter, I have some reservations as D’Artagnan is, to be frank, a thundering dumbass. Hopefully that’s the point. Also, his father’s final words of advice were “fight as many people as you can, the fact that it’s illegal just makes it more brave!” so who can blame the guy with such poor paternal influence?
