Why doesn't Meg ever use contractions?

This book has me feeling so much rage but in the best way. For once, I'm not angry at bad writing or plot holes, but at the injustices that these women face and the powerlessness they feel.

There's no way that anyone could be surprised by that so-called "twist."

Are we expected not to notice that they never refer to the girls by their names?

Side note: immediately dump anyone who only ever refers to you as "Babygirl." The ick is so huge that it actually makes it difficult to read the book.

"it's all right. I have you."

I'm sorry, what? "I have you?" What a stupid line. The writing in this book is truly terrible. Honestly hate-reading at this point.

Starting to feel like this book is a waste of my time. It's all tell and no show. There is so much about it that is absolutely ridiculous and makes no sense.

I hate the creepy uncle subplot. Why doesn't anyone call him out on it? Ick.

I'm so confused about where Caspia's story fits in to the chronology, although I'm certain that's intentional.

Listening to the graphic audio to refresh my memory before reading Rites of Starling. The voice acting is good, but the background music is distracting. It's often too loud compared to the voices and doesn't always suit the mood of what is happening in the book.

It's still early, but I have a feeling that this book is finally going to break my slump.

So much repetition, so many unnecessary words. Mostly skimming for the meat of the story at this point, such as it is.

Your dog finds a strange woman washed up on the beach. Do you A) call 911, B) drive her to the hospital yourself, or C) take her home to your secluded cabin, start an IV at home, and wait 2 days for her to wake up?
