The misrepresentation of the homeless troubles me greatly. The author clearly spent no time researching the living conditions of homeless persons. „They only spoke to each other when they fought over a piece of garbage” and other dehumanizing remarks are demostrably misguided and just casually cruel. Compassion aside, this makes for a jarringly non-veridic description when the expectation of realism is suggested.

So far, this book has been nothing but a nasty guilt trip to nowhere. It is so overly dramatic that at times I wonder if the drama isn’t in fact meant as a veneer for comedy. Why did so many friends recommend it to me?
