i’m finally starting this and the writing is lovely. i have no idea where this book is leading me but the concept behind this pawnshop, there’s something powerful to be said and studied here. it seems so far that people are trading the memory of painful choices. but there’s humanity in having them, no? that the absence of them is carving out a part of you that makes you whole. many thoughts for this already.

the grammar and formatting in this is egregious. why do we keep adding the dialogue of two different characters in the same paragraph. this book reads like middle-grade fiction but even middle-grade fiction can have good writing styles. this author just can’t write. garbage.

what a shame, seriously. it's well-written and cute, and the children are endearing. i don't much care for linus at ALL. this is seriously white saviorism both in and out of the book. and the rampant fatphobia? linus being fat being the constant butt of the joke? lmao.

it's a shame. the concept is cute. the writing is nice. if i didn't know any better, i'd say this would've been inspired by foster's home for imaginary friends, because the chaos of these fantastical magical children reminds me of that. but i know better. this is based on the sixties scoop. i can't imagine learning about that tragedy and taking THAT as your inspo to write a COZY FANTASY novel.

"Hey." "Hey back." amazing dialogue between 20+ year old characters written by a woman pushing 40. insane.

selene already met kasey like 40 some pages ago. i can’t tell if this is a product of her magic-induced amnesia or if the author is throwing plot holes and has amnesia of her own

i’m sorry but how does chapter 13 end like that. ??? memnon accosts selene and then chapter 14 starts with her in class? how does she get away from him. like? no on-page description of her running away or memnon leaving to bide his time. just. ??? and it’s bothering me bc memnon clearly isn’t the kind of guy to just walk away like this. hello??? garbage.
