this book is really moving me because of how much the stuckness/wrongness reminds me of covid and in other ways of having a chronically ill parent, just such a sad story :(

the parts about how much she loves life with her husband are intended to provide levity but are sooooo hard to read now that we know about his abuse of her too 💔

i wish this was less media sociology and more financial crime but it’s not the book’s fault i only looked at the front

i don’t like how every other chapter ends with someone dying horribly and secretly but i guess the 18th century was like that

first story was like if Let Me Try Again was less funny, but Let Me Try Again was funny cuz he’s earnestly that guy while this is very cynical
