I started out enjoying this-- the author is pretty funny-- but I was expecting more essays on tacky pop culture, and so far those things are really more used as nucleation points for the author to talk about her sex life. Which, like, fine-- I have definitely enjoyed books like that in the past, it's just not what I signed up for and I feel like the description is misleading.

I just want to curl up in this story and stay here forever.

AT LAAAAAAASSSSSSSTTTTT

The formatting of the physical book is weird-- it looks like an e-book, down to some odd spacing choices and flipping back and forth between font sizes. Weirdly, though, reading this pretty well mirrors the experience of watching one of Brad Leone's videos and the content is on point. I've flagged several recipes to try so far and am really enjoying learning about the Northeast.

Not even 20 minutes into this audiobook and I can already tell this is going to be everything.

About halfway through and it's already bursting with page flags, this is definitely going on my "Buy" list. I'd consider this book worth reading like a novel, Simeon does a great job weaving a sense of place and culture into his recipes. I love that the history and cultural influences for different dishes are sprinkled throughout the book rather than confined to an introduction. Also, it's just visually lovely.

Okay, everyone is done arguing for the time being and I'm happy.

I'm having the same issue with this book as I had with the last installment in Rowell's Simon Snow series-- the plot is constantly stalled so that the characters can pointlessly argue about whatever. Simon and Baz argue, then they argue again in the next scene just to reverse the effects of the previous argument. Penelope and Shepard argue. Penelope and her mother argue. Agatha and Niev (sp?) argue. WHY.

Can I just point out that this has one of the same cover models as A Little Light Mischief by Cat Sebastian? Not mad about it.

I was overdue for a book about writing books, I missed it.

And now I'm craving Mother Bear's, my kingdom for a Paulie Pine Nuts Pesto Pie!

Trigger warning for anyone who grew up with an adult in their life who was overly-critical to the point of being obsessed with your weight, regardless of how you felt about your own body. Rage-inducing fictional parenting aside, I like this so far.

This has the same narrator as Infinite Jest and I approve.

So much snark, I'm gonna eat this like a box of Runts.

What even is this? I love it.

Pretty sure I've never read a romance involving a duke before which, given their apparent prevalence, seems like a square on my reading bingo that I need to work on.

Well so far I hate it but let's keep going for fun.
