Such a charming book! As an English teacher, I felt drawn to Bob Lehrer and could image being a teacher at Baldwin High School. Sometimes I felt like the author
must have worked at the same high school I did! I could picture the teachers, students, PTO president and even the custodian. She reminded me of the one who cleaned my classroom most recently. I look forward to reading more by Jennifer Mathieu.

This was an interesting novel. Although based on a real midwife in the late 1700’s, it seems like a more modern tale to me. Midwifery has always interested me and my past birth was attended by a midwife. I liked Martha and Ephraim immensely. The story has mystery, love, and animals, which made it very enjoyable for me. Love the ending.

Jaime Pierce is reading The Last Devil to Die (Thursday Murder Club, #4)
This is the best book of the series! I laughed out loud in places, but there is still plenty of mystery and a bit of sadness too. I love the way Richard Osman writes!

Jaime Pierce is reading Hero of Two Worlds: The Marquis de Lafayette in the Age of Revolution
This is a wonderful account of the life of the Marquis de Lafayette. I never knew much about this brave man, who came to the Colonies to help in the war against England. He then went back to France and worked to save it up until he died.

Jaime Pierce is 50% done with The Hiding Place: The Triumphant True Story of Corrie Ten Boom
This was a remarkable story of the ten Boom family’s belief in God, even through the horrors of the Holocaust arriving in Holland. They were part of the Underground, helping Jewish people to safety, and for that they were sent to a concentration camp. They never stopped thanking God for any little mercy. A very uplifting story.

Jaime Pierce is reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
This novel is an amazing book that never earned Anne Brontë her Sue acclaim due to the subject matter. She was so brave to write this. It is well written and has mystery, intrigue and all the hallmarks of Victorian England, with small town gossip, expectations of women’s behavior, and scandal, all set around an abandoned manor house.

Jaime Pierce is reading Cranford
This was a charming story of a fictional English town in the Victoria. Period. It had wit, humor, drama, broken hearts, births and deaths. You get a picture of what it was like for the average person, what they were afraid of, how they handled social situations, and how they helped each other through the difficult times. A great read by a female author of that time period.

It was interesting, especially the part that takes place in Austin. There was a lot of repetition and it got pretty unbelievable 3/4s of the way through.

I enjoying his book, as I do all of Bill Bryson’s books. This one is highly detailed, although very informative. Between my book club books, I return to The Body.
