I love it but the reviewer who stated the book s fat phobic wasn't lying. I'm going to finish it but that will definitely take off at least a star or two.

Ngl, I'm not loving this right now. I'm pissed that the protagonist described squinting as "looking Chinese" and then doubled down on the racist comment. The protagonist is supposed to be cringe and try-hard but I'm not feeling it. Dunno if I'm going to stick with it.

This is more than a book about eating. It really has a lot of good insight into ADHD and is well written for the dry-ish subject.

So I liked the characters too much and took a break because I didn't want to see bad things happening to them. But it remains fantastic, I love Mark Russell.

Ok, this book is a lot more fun now, I'm glad I stuck with it. I'm still not happy about the lack of footnotes though and am therefore taking everything with a grain of salt.

O'Neill rambles more than he should about the process of investigating, and frankly, this book needs a better editor than he had. I'm reading this on audio but saw other reviewers mention that there are no footnotes for this book, which is troubling. Makes me take everything I'm reading with a grain of salt, especially knowing that the publishing industry doesn't do a good job of fact-checking non-fiction.

Reading for Charlotte. It's cute, but I'm too much of an adult, I keep identifying with the adults in the story.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this. Still will finish it for Charlotte, but there's not enough nuance for me. Granted, I expect that in middle school reads, but even for that, it is not amazing. The focus on rote memorization as a sign of intelligence is a weird choice.

So i have the movie cover of this book on my library app. I have not seen the movie, but Melody is depicted in the Disney movie as white. Sharon Draper clearly wrote the family to be black, and I know Sharon is black. I'm very mad at Disney.

Great middle school read. I prefer something more nuanced, but being in education, I know exactly what Melody needed for school, so getting to that point was frustrating.
