I don’t think most people realize how unique and extreme America’s history of racism is…

I knew nazi germany had used American eugenics, but it just learning how they analyzed US laws that legalized systemic racism and racist arguments that were accepted by the Supreme Court in order to strategize their own means of legalizing antisemitism. AND analyzing how the US maintained such an innocent, ethical reputation despite this.

I love the metaphor of learning about the history of one’s country as learning about one’s family medical history.

I’m going to have so much fun to say about this book but reading about all the hate crimes committed after trump took office in 2016 because bigots felt so empowered is even more powerful in tandem with reading Jesus & John Wayne about how evangelicals got Trump elected. The other book does talk about race but reading about the murders that occurred as a result of Christian political involvement makes it so real.

Listening to the introduction about a man refusing to do the nazi solute in the early days of the third reich and the author asking “what would it take to be like him?” if we were in that position is a quite timely question

This reads as a YA but I’m kind of into it. Perfect for reading before bed to clear the mind.

Very educational and very dense, goddamn it's taking me forever to get through this book. (also did he say airplane hijackings weren't really terrorist attacks because... I have questions.)
