Plot so far
- The protags escape.
- The protags are captured.
- They escape again.
- They are captured again.
- They escape again.
...

You can see where this is going.

Very repetitive

TW: suicide (off page), implied incest

I don't remember the writing feeling this immature. Could be the character POV? To be seen.

Jules is 45% done with The Space Between Worlds (The Space Between Worlds, #1)
Summary notes - Sci-fi logic lite with minimal world-building but with potentially promising follow-through and diverse characters

A bit of an anticlimax for the middle of the book. Not sure where it's going but I'll go along for the ride.

Difficult to follow. Protag's thoughts switch back and forth between worlds and scenarios without distinction.

The writing style is good but the first 200 pages are all about spousal and child abuse (physically and sexually), not really about Boston.

Yes this is how things often 'used to be' but to read about a priest, even a fictional one, saying that a woman should just suffer her husband's abuse because he's a provider and that by doing so she'll be rewarded in the next life is *so* disturbing. It's a major book turnoff.

The book itself seems poorly made. The pages are oddly thick (like two pages but not) and the binding is such that the pages won't stay flat. They pop up at points throughout the book.

The first half is very island focused and there isn't any chemistry between the Lucie and George.

The second half so far is very chat-heavy and there is only minimal world building and again, no chemistry.

So not only does she not have reproductive rights (because heir please) but she wouldn't even have rights to those theoretical children because they'd be the king's property and weapons to use. Hmph

"You don't have to worry about this. You don't have to think so hard."

And so it begins... *Sigh*

Hollis: My friend says every chance she gets that I don't study well.

Really? Where? It's mentioned like once and it's true.

Also Hollis: My other love interest keeps finding stuff I don't know about myself. Like that I keep trying.

She doesn't know that she's persistent? She doesn't know that she likes to try? Does she not look at or think about her actions ever? That's really basic stuff.
