I mean, it's turning out to be a quick read, but smooth isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe it. Structure (both micro and macro) feels a bit all over the place

Some well executed world-building, character building and set-up so far. I'm intrigued!

There's a lot of things I don't like about my job, but one of the few things I do like is that when I have to go somewhere else for work (today, a conference), I can clock in the moment I leave home and clock out the moment I return, and I'm not expected to work on the way there. As a result, I got loads of reading done today on the train to and from Zaventem (the city, not the airport) hehehe

Love when I get my half hour lunch break an hour later than usual on a really shitty day at work, look forward to taking my mind off things by reading, and then get smacked in the face by an insanely tragic moment in the plot.

Rewitched review is forthcoming, not to worry. In the meantime, I already enjoy this book way more!

Please do not conflate my progress with enjoyment. I merely want to get to the end so I can move on to a better book

I simultaneously feel like I know exactly where every plot line is going, and also not at all.

The whole premise, as well as the magic system and other 'internal logic' is also making less and less sense by the minute.

I'm not sure why, but I'm struggling here. I don't particularly like the main character, the plot hasn't quite hooked me yet, and the writing style often feels off.

Cutting it close: book club is in less than four hours and I have other stuff to do in the meantime 😅

Luckily, I'm making my way through quite quickly, should make it before Saturday without too much issue!
