The theme of the story is good vs. evil. Emma, the main character, is good, but some people try to chase or kill her because the magical music box only follows and listens to her. Evil is the girl who tries to take the music box from Emma. Emma has no idea how powerful the haunted music box is, so Emma doesn't care about the music box, until she finds out how good and helpful it can be.
