Finished the third essay, which was a plea for more radical children's lit! The author included parts of a story he himself had tried to write, but man, he cannot write fiction. 😆

I enjoyed this one. I think the overall takeaway was that what kids read shapes their worldview, so imagination is a powerful tool to help shape that in a way that advocates for society's betterment.

Third essay dealt with the conundrum of inequality in urban schools and used several different takes on the Pinnochio story to establish perspective about the way boys react to opportunity.

Very good stuff. Will probs finish the final essay today!

I'm gonna update after each essay just because I really like it! The second part of this book was about the way we downplay key moments in the civil rights movement for children, specifically about the narrative surrounding Rosa Parks. Found this super informative and inspiring.

Very very interesting, raises some good questions on the way we teach children about structure and authority!
