Dense material, written in an old English prose. Sometimes difficult to understand, but the stories he tells are authentic and put bright images in my mind. Very good prose for capturing the poetry of biology, geology, and climate.

So far, 3.5/5, because it has taken me 3 years of on and off reading to even get 1/3 of the way through. Still interesting historical material.
