Me thinkest Kundera protests too much regarding this work being a love story and not a major indictment of Stalinism. So far, no love, just thinly veiled lust masquerading as love, and a bunch of anti-communist propaganda. Very cynical, enjoyable, beautifully written, but I wouldn't say it brightens up my day.
