Ch 117 5 October

Max meets the Count of Monte Cristo on the island, where he learns that all of the Counts wealth is now his. Morrel is devastated by the loss of Valentine, taking hashish to die. But, he realizes Val is alive and has been rescued by Haydee. The novel ends with the couple heading toward a new life, and the Count and Haydee embracing their love, while both couples hold onto hope for the future

Ch 116 The Pardon

Danglars continue to negotiate his remaining money, paying thousands for food in prison until he has only 50,000 francs left. At this point, the Count arrives with Vampa and announces that he is pardoning Danglars. He reveals that Villefort is now mad with grief and Fernand has committed suicide. The Count reveals hes Edmond Dantes and explains that Danglars financial ruin is his punishment

Ch 115: Luigi Vampas Bill of Fare

The next day, Peppino, the jailor, informs Danglars that he must pay 100,000 francs for a chicken or a loaf of bread, taking advantage of Danglars considerable wealth of over 5 million francs in banknotes. Understanding that this is how his ransom will be charged, Danglars begrudgingly pays 100,000 francs for a meager chicken, which he eats with frustration in the cave

Ch 113: The Past

After leaving Mercedes, the Count sails to the empty Chateau DIf, where he visits his old cell and gets Abbe Farias book. Reflecting on the lives he has lived since his escape the Count realizes he needs a new purpose. On his return to Marseille, he encourages Max to hope and makes a promise to meet him on October 5th. With that the Count sets sail for Italy, bidding Morrel farewell for now

Ch 112: Departure

The Count departs Paris with Max to cheer him after the death of Val. The Count has two intentions: help Morrel cope with his loss and to visit some places before abandoning his title. In Marseille, they see Albert, who is leaving as a soldier in Africa. The Count visits his fathers home and finds Mercedes. They share a deep talk about lost love and regrets, reflecting on their misfortunes

Ch 111: Expiation

After the courtroom revelation, Villefort reflects on his guilt and resolves to flee France with his wife, Heloise, and Edouard. However at home he discovers Heloise has poisoned herself and Edouard. In a separate room, Villefort encounters the Abbe Busoni, who reveals himself as the Count and Edmond Dantes. But the Count, feeling remorse for the victims, fears he has gone "too far"

Ch 110: The Indictment

Villefort, the crown prosecutor, faces testimony from Andrea/Benedetto, who confesses to his crimes. He reveals that Villefort is his father, destroying the prosecutor's reputation. As the truth of Villefort's past crimes comes to light, he realizes he can no longer hide. The courtroom reacts in disbelief. The judges adjourn to address the chaos.

Chateau-Renaud, Debray, and Beauchamp are in court to see the beginning of the famous Benedetto case. They discuss the rumor that the murderer in the house of Villefort is young Edouard. But others in the group dismiss this as nonsense and wait for the excitement of the case to begin, with Villefort drawing up evidence against the accused “Prince,” Cavalcanti. The count is not there

Ch 108: The Judge

Villefort confronts his wife Heloise about her poisonings, which are part of the larger Benedetto Affair. He asks if she still possesses the poison used on the victims. Instead of threatening her with public denunciation, Villefort pressures her to commit suicide to avoid imprisonment and execution. He leaves and threatens that if she hasent died before he comes back she is going to prison

Ch 107: The Lions Pitt

Andrea, in the prison Lion’s Pit, claims royal lineage despite mockery from fellow prisoners. Bertuccio bribes guards to visit Andrea, promising information about Benedetto’s real father, which Andrea eagerly awaits. He still thinks it is te Count of Monte Cristo.
