Excellent book as he notes in the preface it’s a distillation of all his work on the constitution over his academic career. Having just finished reading his book, “Creation of the American Republic: 1776 - 1787” I’m certainly feeling that’s an accurate description of this work.

J. I’m find this book actually verbally confirms what I thought o was gleaming from the previous work, such as the constitution actually arising from the making of state constitutions and that the colonies after the Declaration of Independence became independent republics/Nation states but weren’t a nation yet moreover they viewed themselves as having direct relations with the Crown not parliament and Pete precursors and actually proposed staying with England in what scholars now call the Dominion Model much like Canada or Jamaica today.
