This is kinda boring, has strange pacing, and will not get to the good stuff. But dangit if the world building isn't cool.

That said, a number of promises have been made in incredible ways, and near the halfway point, Nynaeve has one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever read in literature. In addition, the latter half looks to be far more gripping than the first.

Firstly, Happy Resurrection Sunday. Secondly, this book seems to be great except when it's focusing on the main character. Something about how Jordan penned him doesn't entirely gel with me. Beyond that, the details behind operating the One Power are enthralling, and switching back to Rand is cool, but distracting from what I want to happen, especially since he can be dense at times here. Patiently waiting for #3.

I almost regret putting it down. Oddly, Jordan's prose is quite different than Sanderson's. While Sanderson would almost entirely eschew the small, extraneous details (thus far), Jordan leans into them, though they typically pull double-duty, helping one understand a character's mental state, for example. Fascinating.

Call me fickle, or maybe I'm losing focus again, but this is surprisingly slow. Jordan builds Rand and surrounding characters like Mat and Ingtar nicely, but I'm waiting for something big to happen. I was expecting the whiplash to break my neck, but in in no pain. I'm planning on weaving in Cosmere novels while I read these to see if I can catch up before Stormlight #5. My focus is embarrassingly bad. Pray for me.

A slow start, but still engaging nonetheless. Also, if I forgot to mention this, I decided to change from A New Spring to The Great Hunt per Google suggestions so I didn't somehow get any spoilers for later books. Thus far, it's been a lot of somewhat slowly-paced setup, but I will say all incredibly good nonetheless. Characterization is so beautifully executed. Cannot wait for the next one.
