Sloan is in a relationship with Asa, but she isn't necessarily in the relationship for the love, rather the shelter to stay. And, for her brother. She wants her brother to be safe and protected. Although, she is in a class with Carter who ironically Asa just hired. Carter had no idea about her boyfriend, and I don't think expected her to have one after their interaction.

Asa and Sloan are now engaged, we see Asa catching onto Carter. At the party, he is trying to get back at Crater in a weird way. Although, he claims to love Carter, I think it might just be a way to get at Sloan.
