i’ve always noticed that every generation in america makes a “pact” with the government. this explains the phenomenon of cyclical shifts of views in society rather than purely linear growth towards progress.

also stauss & howe have always been more approachable authors that only shift into technical speak if colloquialisms simply do not suffice.
