I'm sure if I picked it apart and analysed every nook and cranny I'd be able to decifer some complex meaning or moral message... but to be honest I don't really care enough.

This feels distinctly like something you'd study at school. Beautiful writing, simple story laden with metaphors and connotations just urging you to pick them apart for no reason other than to milk paragraph after analytical paragraph. So yeah.
