Vergard raised an eyebrow as he caught sight of Bane, his dark eyes dancing with humor. Something about him irked Bane, but he shoved down his irritation and met Vergard’s easygoing attitude with a smirk. “Well?”
Vergard drew his sword. “Well. Shall we begin? Oh and do I have the pleasure of earning your name? I certainly would hate to kill you without learning your name.”
Bane snorted. “I think you got that mixed up.”
“Oh? Well, my apologies. You just didn’t seem competent enough to actually kill me, is all.”
Bane shot him a glare as he initiated the first move, the clang of their swords nearly the only sound in the still clearing except for the crackle of the fire. “You know, you’re pretty sure of yourself.”
Vergard smirked and ducked past a blow from Bane, twirling around as he did so, looking rather idiotically like he was doing some sort of dance. “I mean, I haven’t been killed yet, and I’ve been on the Rogues ‘most wanted handsome boy’ list for as long as I’ve been a Noble agent, so there is that.”
