I think having a dog, especially one more prone to fear, teaches you self-awareness. I learn so much for my dog, and in turn, I learn for myself too, and I think that is really the point.

This is so enlightening. My pup is naturally cautious and we try to socialize him as an ongoing thing but I'm still learning his cues and have failed at appropriately managing them. I'm trying to figure out his threshold so I am better able to increase that along with his confidence. He had some experiences out of my control as a puppy that left lasting effects.
