The author seems to have a great respect for Palestinian literature, but zero tolerance for Palestinian resistance to occupation.
I just can't with that whole dynamic where the occupier is allowed to murder& declare who's a terrorist& the occupied is only allowed poems, nonviolence, dying from Israel's car bombs, American bombs, bombs that blow up all the hospitals& bread lines.
For the lit, I'll keep reading

Original frustration stands. He's VERY Orientalist. But there are good points when he gets to telling people's stories. But that anti-resistance commentary, ugh+he openly doubts when Palestinians say Israeli doctors recommend aborting male babies or Israeli interrogators blackmail gay Palestinians into collaborating. Israel gets good faith, Palestinians don't.
May be worth your time, but it needs a huge warning.

I'm staying with it. The author loves Palestinian literature and those who write it and it makes for beautiful reading, poetic admiration. But it does leave a bad taste in my mouth the way he summarizes the events around 1948 and 1967. It's a very Western outlook. He allows America, British & Israelis to murder innocents & be human but doesn't permit Palestinians-any hint of resistance & I can feel his disdain.
