The Kith of the Elf-folk by Lord Dunsany: very magical, much like a fairytale. almost exactly like a fairytale or folk tale, actually. good, but I'm curious as to why it was included in this collection lol. maybe reminiscent of something like "What the Moon Brings"? idk

The Return of Hastur by August Derleth: THAT WAS SO FUCKING, I literally went online and ordered a collection by August Derleth before I even finished the goddamn story it was so good. honestly the best Pastiche I've read so far: so much mythos fanservice yet also capturing Lovecraft's style SO WELL. fucking amazing.

Foxfire Future by Helen E. Davis: this was fine. a kinda dull peek into a very generic post-apocalyptic world that happens to have Shuggoths in it. idk why these authors are tryna build a world within a short story? and again (I'm sounding like a broken record), they end up sacrificing any good atmosphere for it.

The Franklyn Paragraphs by Ramsey Campbell: kinda whatever. not exactly horrible, but just doing too much for the most minimal payoff. whenever authors try to make their horror super realistic and rooted, they almost ALWAYS sacrifice style and general enjoyment, which is what happened with this one too.

Cthulhu-Seltzer by Hal Bodner: ACTUALLY KINDA INCREDIBLE. a horror-comedy contemporary Lovecraft-mythos story that not only feels like the gnarliest of Lovecraft Pastiche stories, but is also just so fucking funny. Bodner seems to be quite a good writer from this, and I am using this to make a mental note to see what else he's written.
