Chpt 28 reminded me of The Things They Carried. Our harried crew are all carrying something - resentment, responsibility, guilt in addition to their physical equipment while traveling down this country lane with imminent threats looming. They better be careful. Boom. Dead. Hope Caldwell is the one to go down...sure she won't though. She's a ruthless fighter, survivor.
