After Jon makes it to his hotel room he begins to think of the people in his expedition that died. Some of which were his friends. Jon says “the first sob was followed by another, then another and another” (Krakauer 270) Jon was emotional because he was sad he lost them, he felt bad he survived while they didn’t, and he was happy that he made it out alive.
