Moving at breakneck speed, and not for the better. :(

Picking back up a bit, but not necessarily an improvement. Right now, basically Dungeons and Dragons with an Aztec/Maya flavour. Despite being by a different author, it has the "Riordanisms" that I've come to dislike, but fortunately, not as aggravating here as some other works.

Still formulaic, down to the point that like in Percy Jackson, the protagonists have visited Vegas. Also, treehouses at SHIHOM, which is similar to Skandar, and therefore, terrible. Eddison the demon is okay I guess. Also, arrows glowing blue when demons are near...Sting? Never heard of it. 0_0

Well, it wouldn't be a Riordan book if there wasn't a mythologically-based deadline (yes, I know Riordan didn't actually write this, point still stands). Decent job of blending Mayan and Aztec mythologies, but can't say I'm overly familiar with either, so I'm taking things as the author presents them (snot-nosed teens notwithstanding).

Book on Mayan mythology, less than 22 pages, and there's already the inciting incident. Maybe I should be Mayan my own business, but I'll keep reading.
