Felipe’s Reviews > Middlemarch > Status Update

“If youth is the season of hope, it is often so only in the sense that our elders are hopeful about us; for no age is so apt to think its emotions, partings, and resolves are the last of their kind. Each crisis seems final, simply because it is new.”

Eliot was a sensitive creature keen to observe the complexitied of the human experience, beautifully described in the novel.

"Signs are small, measurable things..."

I treasure this book and think of it very fondly. Each time I´ve picked it up from the shelf, it's proved to be a masterpiece that simply speaks to me on an intimate level. Strikingly well written, it stands, as Woolf herself is known to have said, as one of the few english novels for gorwnups. Maybe that's why I never seem to read many pages at once and rather take my time.
