The Dark Demon was my favorite story in this collection thus far. It was a meta tale but cleverly woven with Lovecraftian lore and a mention of Azathoth is always a win in my book

Well that was a weird story to end. Either way, a pretty enjoyable romp. Stories of varying quality and depth but overall, very impressed. Even more impressed to learn that Bloch wrote many of them as a 17 year old. What a talent. Granted, this is the guy that wrote Psycho, so I’m unsurprised. Now I want to read some good old Lovecraft, and I may. I haven’t decided yet. We’ll see what I decide.

Terror in Cut-Throat Cave was genuinely bone-chilling. The characters themselves were interesting and then the rather detailed lore of the Terror itself and its depthless hunger. And then Howard’s slow descent into madness, first weary, then urging Don to cease it all after his vision, then becoming apart of the creature. And then the end. Very grim. But very good.

The Unspeakable Betrothal was truly excellent. A great example of the eldritch horror of the creatures beyond our mudball, of the elder horrors that wait and bay around our planet, for what reason? Who knows. Still, the window as a pathway to Avis is a fitting metaphor… as well as a literal device. That ending. Shudder

The stories are good. Some are a tad predictable and Ive seen’s Bloch’s writing described as ‘purple prose,’ but I love it

Ragpicker King was summarily devoured in two days so I’m returning to this.

I’m excited to dig into this. First story was good. Short and sweet
