and_she_reads How is this going for you? I was actually in Italy visiting family when the story broke and I've been obsessed with it ever since.

Ashley I find the story very interesting. Were you in Perugia or another part of Italy when you were visiting? What do you think about the case?

and_she_reads I was in Genova when it happened. I watched the news religiously during my 2 week stay and witnessed first hand how the Italian media set the stage even before any evidence was presented. I speak the language and even lived in Italy a few years ago (my husband is Italian) so I know the culture well. The case? Well, it was crazy and distorted, particularly the way the media and prosecusion used the whole madonna/whore theme in regards to Amanda! Italians are obsessed with sex and women, and I'm not saying this because it's a bad thing!

Ashley That's pretty interesting! Do you like Italy and the culture? I feel like when they were looking for the murderer they just wanted to quickly find them. It seemed like they had an idea and just went off it and even if some things were obviously false it didn't seem to really matter to them.

and_she_reads Well, you are spot on in your theory!

Oh, yes, I do like Italy and the culture (I married an Italian and lived there for 6 years, after all!). :-)

Ashley The police shouldn't have been like that! What's Italy like?

and_she_reads Hmmm...that's sort of a broad question. Let's see...pros: great food, beautiful people, gorgeous countryside. Cons: ridiculously high cost of living, not the cleanest of places (but it's old, so it gets a pass in my book). In short, a wonderful place to visit but not so much to live (unless you're wealthy, and I am not). Even my husband feels the same way after living in the U.S. since 1998. We go back and visit his family every couple of years, and Skype with his parents every weekend, so we stay connected.

Ashley I want to travel in the future and I think Italy might be a place to visit then! That's good to stay connected to them! Visiting is also good to do as well! It also sounds like fun to go back to Italy every couple years!
