Don’t you hate it when you start a book and then realise it’s part of a series. But it doesn’t say anything about that on the cover etc.

YES! (Marketing trick, I'm sure. If they said Book 3, people who'd not read books 1 and 2 wouldn't buy it. Trickery dickery!)
