Andy Adams, again, proves a realist with the attention paid to animal care and typical hardships on the road, main drama being served by the complicated legality of cattle contracts. My gripe is that, although he is peeved by the dismissive attitude that upper class americans take towards the cowmen, he employs the same attitude and even worse toward people of color, blind to the hipocrisy

Finished "A Texas Matchmaker". Less of a trail tale and more of a detailed description of cattle ranch work in Texas, with enough drama and heartache thrown in to engage. Done in a true realism style, Andy Adams is very underappreciated due to the pulp reputation of the average western. Loved this story to bits. People who complain about modernity should take a glance to the past and see that not much has changed.

Finished Log of the Cowboy. Some say it's dry but for me it's an engaging tale of the wild west, of the real lives of cowherds living on the range. It has it all - gunfights, tales at the campfire, encounters with natives, horse riding, gambling, death defying stunts and pioneer lifestyle. Truly a view into a short time that's long gone by. Loved every word of it.
