It's always crazy when you stumble upon the book which invented the conversation you're presently enveloped in and admiring. SO much of the critical theory surrounding noir and the pop podcast commentary either is coming from this work or is built out of the historicism of Naremore's scholarship and his unselfish reposing of the concepts to the post war French theorists and critics. Essential text it seems.
