Giving up for now. The kid is just not very interested in this story. Maybe we'll try it again next year, but I think the book may just be too dated.

I wish this were a bite more subversive. And my kid is not understanding why everybody in the book thinks that perfect princesses must be blonde et cetera in the first place. Which means I'm doing something right as a parent, I guess?!
