The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle
I enjoyed the set up for this mystery - Sherlock just investigating a hat and goose because he was curious rather than any crime was a fun idea. Of course, then there actually is a crime, and I enjoyed the investigation but found the resolution a little dissatisfying.

The Five Orange Pips
In the modern world this is probably much less mysterious than it would have been - it’s unfortunate that the America is still subject to the ongoing atrocities of the KKK. While the language used is a bit shocking, I’m sure it wouldn’t have caused the contemporary audience to bat an eye. In the end, God and Sherlock Holmes team up against the racists.

The Boscombe Valley Mystery
This one felt very forgettable. I’ve been listening to Stephen Fry’s audiobook version, and I had to reread the ending almost immediately to remember what happened.

A Case of Identity
This is the first SH story where I’ve been able to figure it out! I love how genuinely angry Sherlock is at the perpetrator (which I much preferred to the more aloof way he seems to be characterised now. Give me Sherlock threatening to beat a guy up!) This also reminded me of a Shirley Jackson short story (the name escapes me at the moment) - I wonder if she took any inspiration from this.

This one is so funny and I’d love to know what made ACD think of this? Did he just see a guy with really strikingly red hair and go ‘what if there’s a club of them?’ and things went from there?

A Scandal In Bohemia
The only adaptation of Irene Adler that I’d seen before reading was BBCs Sherlock, and I didn’t love that character - I found her more mysterious and charming here. I didn’t feel that there was much in the way of mystery or deduction here, but I didn’t mind skipping the perpetrator’s monologue (which I didn’t dislike before, but could’ve done with an abridged version)
