Very disappointed with the lack of orks in the climax. Would have liked them to show up as an extra complication like they did back in Caves of Ice, but instead they just disappeared without further note.

I don't think there were even Tyranids in the galaxy back then.

Pretty obviously telegraphed as something other than orks, and there's usually that midway twist in the series that brings a new foe and suddenly makes things even more complicated.

Is it Chaos or Tyranids? Surely not Necrons, since we already had that dynamic in Caves of Ice.

Basically a coin flip. And in the end, I wasn't surprised.

Oh, they did make it to the fight now. Too bad.

Now I like to think that the entire book's just going to be Cain and his regiment's misadventures in getting there. And by the time they do, it's over. Probably thanks to something they did on the way.

That's a whole lot of actual (scoff) physics for a WH40k novel. It all feels a little out of place.

I was making an update to the tune of "I'm getting pretty tired of Sulla's deliberately-bad writing, we can let the joke rest now", and then I thought about it and went back to my comments on the previous books and I found that I'd already said basically this exact thing twice before.

So. I guess I'm really tired then.
