On the beginning of the titular essay, Joan Didion describes a writer’s goal, which is to freeze in time their personal phantasmagoria. Not knowing what it was, I had to Google what that meant. I then wrote down my paraphrase of the Google definition, “dream like sequences of images.”

I have so much time for Joan Didion's essays, MANY MANSIONS and HOLY WATER. So amazed as to how many trains of thought can converge into one piece...

josh valentin Didion’s ‘The White Album’ essay is an immersive phantasmagoria that perfectly captures the impending doom that played through the background of the oh-so joyous 60s. Honestly, I feel affirmed as a writer who loves to hopscotch and present various tiny stories to convey a point, we love you Joan Didion a girl for the attention deficit writers!! She just does this writing form so well, and the rhythm in which her words bounce and roll off your tongue is so good!!

josh valentin A sidenote, my quest of reading Why Nations Fail was getting boring (ugh the writing style I think got less interesting) so i started this book up… 30+ pages have never flew so fast…
