Somehow, Audrey didn’t find that reassuring.

I feel reassured. So happy to see Cerise and William again in action

“You mean Emancipation and 1863 . . .” Paul murmured weakly.
Behind Audrey , Kaldar shook his head at him.

“Oh no, not that seductive face. I’m overcome with the need to take off these awful clothes. What is happening? I do not understand. Oooh. Ahhh.” She touched her wrist to her forehead. “Somebody help me. I’m being drenched with my own fluids.”

Fate, that bloody, vicious, fickle bitch. Sometimes she loved him, and he could do nothing wrong. And sometimes she stuck a knife in his back.

If fate is a woman I'm pretty sure you could seduce her Kaldar. But you also probably deserve that knife in your back from time to time.

Audrey’s earlier suspicions were confirmed. All Mars were insane.

I want more kids just like Jack and George.

“How’s it hanging?”Jack asked.
“How am I supposed to answer that?”
George looked at him.
“I don’t think Kaldar said anything about that. I guess ‘good’? I don’t get it. What’s hanging anyway?”
George shook his head. “Your stuff, you nimwit.”
His stuff . . . Oh. Ha! “In that case, it’s hanging long!”Jack dissolved into giggles. “Long, get it?”

“No, honestly, it’s horrible to be me. I’m rich, talented, and I make girls cry.”
“How do you make girls cry, exactly?”
George turned to her. His blue eyes widened. His lovely face took on a forlorn, deeply troubled expression. He leaned forward, and, in a theatrical whisper, said, “My past is tragic. I wouldn’t want to burden you with it. It’s a pain I must suffer alone. In the rain. In silence.”

GEORGE!

He raised his hand, shielding his eyes. “Smile . . . too . . . bright . . .”
“You’re going to be a pain to work with, aren’t you?”
“Oh, I don’t know. I might grow on you.”
She furrowed her pretty eyebrows. “Like a cancer?”
“Like a favorite vice.”

“She wants to be normal right now,”Cerise told him. “She wants to forget the ugliness, so she is making everything around her pretty.”
“And I am ugly,”Jack said.
Cerise put her hand over her face. “Oy.”
“You’re not ugly,”William said. “You’re violent. You like to hunt and kill, and she can’t handle the blood right now. Let her work it out on her own. When she’s ready, she’ll find you.”
