Flash stripping men to their underwear seems gay today, but it some pf the most popular silent comedians of their day could do it for 20+ minutes and get laughs. I once read that Joan doesn't recognize Jay in costume, but he has to tell her to stop calling him "Flash" when he's in street clothes.

Jay is taking a little more precaution with his identity with strangers, but he's pretty up front about who he is even with acquaintances.

Jay Garrick doesn't hide from anyone that he's The Flash, contrary to some books I've read on the subject, and he's as mischievous as the early Superman. He takes a reported named Eddens to the top of the Empire State Building and strips him to his underwear to make him compliant.
