Ch4 SPATIAL QUANTITY, QUALIFIED SPACE

Guenon critiques the profanity of Cartesian physics, which does acknowledge Quality, yet, Quality is necessary to make Direction manifest, which is necessary to make Space manifest, and thus necessary for geometry. Sacred geometry acknowledges quality.

Ch1 - Quality and Quantity

Guenon clarifies the terms "Quality" and "Quantity", and equivalent or related terms across the Hindu, Aristotelian and Scholastic traditions, in order to present a clear picture of the various aspects assumed by the Western conception of "matter" in later chapters.

Cathbad Bozhko * Time can only be measured by changes in space

* “Corporeal” = “the only phenomena that are situated in space as well as in time”
* Mental phenomena, though developed in time, do not exist in space and, by virtue of their nature as a subtle manifestations, are closer to essence than the corporeal.
* ‘Psycho-physiologists’ investigate only the corporeal concomitants of mental phenomena, rather than the intrinsic nature of the mental, an example of a modern ‘scientistic’ aberration.

* Periods of time are qualitatively differentiated by the events unfolded within them
* Parts of space are qualitatively differentiated by the bodies they contain

* Time, represented as a straight line, is a pernicious simplification
* Time, traditionally represented as cyclic, is qualified time
* Note *spatial* symbolism still needs to be invoked in both cases

* Time as annual cycle, seasons correspond to the four cardinal points.

* Each yuga is faster than the previous, separation away from principle, towards reign of quantity
