The logic isn’t logic-ing

Finally meets long-lost sister: never calls her.
We don’t bring sister to meet mom
Suddenly there’s an investigation in which the VICTIMS are questioned as possible suspects??
Main character is mad at dad for charade—even though MC is 18 and could’ve rebelled a long time ago

It’s obvious writer is pushing the story where it doesn’t logically flow just to meet her plotted end
