Such a difficult situation for the Cassie and Samantha. Of course a man is innocent til proven guilty but you just know Talbut is guilty. How can the women prove it though? I understand the inaction of the authority figures. They know Talbut as a good bloke. Where's the evidence he is not? Will he get away with this?

The solution to developign sexual harassment in the school and the crime was very satisfying. I'm sorry Samantha had to go through that but it was necessary to avoid a 'Terry in court' ending. did. Shocking though the rape was and its aftermath, Talbut's use of the tea towel was also awful. Interesting how this showed Talbut saw people and things as there for his use and his disregard for others.

I think Cassie's nightmares were triggered by her powerlessness in the workplace and feeling threatened. The 1982 flashback scene is really powerful. It is as I suspected from Chapter 3 pages17-18. Did Jake realise what he did to Cassie? I don't think so.

Really found the home scene Ch 9 insightful re Cassie.I went back and reread Ch6 to understand references to family more. The dysfucntion fo Cassie's family had big impact on her. Ditto the failed romance with Jake. The way the novel is written Cassie part observer and partly engaging with life. Nightmares and this detachment suggest soem bad in her past.

The world in this novel is very real. I like George, Michael, and Gary. INteresting that the author has two possibel romance heroes - potentially men who will change their ways for love of Cassie. The novel seems richer than a romance though. Jocie says it's women's lit. Interested to see where teh story goes and issues/themes the author is exploring.
