Read “Tom Sawyer” as a refresher before reading “Huck Finn.” I want to read both before I read “James” by Percival Everett.
Reading this as an adult hits differently. I had a lot more of an appreciation for Twain’s humor. When book banning is a reality, I agree with what Everett has said about Twain’s use of racial slurs in that it does capture the time period in which it’s written.
