This is really academic (obviously that isn’t really what’s putting me off, I didn’t get a bloody PhD for nothing). It’s a bit exhausting though and I can really only deal with this book in short bursts. We still haven’t reached the American civil war, guys.

No. If I have to go any further with this I will hit an insurmountable reading slump, I can feel it. The book is well researched but it has an air of smugness to it that I can’t overlook, and it manages to make horror history, one of my very special interests, unforgivably boring. Won’t be finishing this.
