1. Jinenji’s story is in here
2. There’ve been a lot more emotional stories in here, like Miroku’s wind tunnel widening + his life span shortening (therefore adding more stakes to the story), + Sango’s stealing the Tetsusaiga
3. It’s bloodier in its storytelling

Kohaku’s story is really sad

The demon’s and Midoriko’s souls still battle inside the jewel, allowing the jewel can be as good/evil as the person possessing it. It becomes tainted if in the hands of a demon, and becomes purified when in the hands of a pure-souled being

So the Shikon Jewel, or “Four Souls” Jewel, was made when a powerful priestess named Midoriko battled a gigantic demon. When it was about to suck her soul out, she used the last of her energy to steal its soul + take it into her own, then expel it from her body. Both the demon + Midoriko died, and left behind a crystallized soul (the jewel).
