Ok. So I assumed that the groundwork of the novel ( character, situation intros etc ) were done and dusted by near the end of chapter 8. But McDevitt is rolling the ball slowly here: minor surprises and the emergence of motive is making that ball gather speed. Now I'm really enjoying myself. I suspect that the best enjoyment is yet to be had! :-)
