Wasn't sure what people were talking about when they mentioned the new GR layout, the Reason: They rolled it out with waves. Just got hit with it this morning. My (very succinct)first reaction: NO. Reaction #2: I do not need my everything on my currently reading shelf to be two inches tall. I know what's on that. Can we start a petition to go back to two layouts ago?

And it flickers every time I scroll. Hurts my eyes. I so do not need that.

And I had immediately on Monday morning, and have been laughing about that "Rolling out this week" notice, since it seems like a slow, gentle process, rather than an assault on my eyes first thing on Monday!
Yes! That is it! It's very advertisement-like. I hadn't noticed any flickering. I suppose I have that to look forward too...The ironic thing is that Kobo just released their own (very similar) app last week and my reaction was: "Why would anyone use that when there is GoodReads?" If GoodReads keeps up with its godawful layouts, they're going to give people a reason to switch.
I've been on vacation for about a week now, so I haven't been using anything but the mobile version of the app, where nothing (thankfully) is different. But it doesn't make me look forward to ever getting back to my laptop and going to Goodreads again :-/
It's not the most awful thing in the world, Cathy. It's more just that I can't help but feel that the GR people don't necessarily understand their users. Like they read something that says that more visual content online is GREAT, but they didn't pause to consider that most of their users are readers, and so might have more of an affinity to the written word than the general public. IDK.Anyway, I hope you had a good vacation!
I doubt its just Goodreads... its Amazon trying to monetize... push them book sales... and back when this layout was in beta, they weren't very receptive to user dislike... especially when some users disproved their statement that you couldn't remove recommendations from your update feed in the old layout either (one of their best ways to push sales I think)Anyway... this site and another Firefox addon can revert the layout if you consider the effort worth it: https://userstyles.org/styles/131118/...
